I’ve been long-listed for the Littlewoods Ireland Blog Awards 2016! @BlogAwardsIE #blogawardsireland

I am delighted to have made the Littlewoods Ireland Blog Awards 2016 Long-List in two categories; Arts and Culture, and Books and Literature. If the judges consider me worthy of short-listing, the winners will be chosen by public vote, so I may be enlisting your help in the not too distant future.

In the meantime, congratulations to all my fellow nominees, particularly lovely Blogger-Friend Tara Sparling, who I am up against in one of the categories, and she is a former winner… gulp! Exciting times! Wish me luck!

You can check out the Littlewoods Ireland Blog Awards 2016 here.

Oh and by the way, some more great news: I’m off to university in September to study for a BA in Celtic Studies and Irish Medieval History! Nearly 50 and starting university… I must be crazy! πŸ˜€πŸ˜„πŸ˜ƒβ€Ό

  1. Though slightly belated, hearty congrats Ali. I am sure you will make the grade in further reckoning. As for your university entry, there are no barriers of age or time for learning. It is, as you are well aware, a life-long process. We are all learning as we are progressing with our lives. Congrats again, and best wishes.

  2. How wonderful, both the award potential and the university plans ! I have Irish ancestors in my family, but I’ve learned more about Ireland from your blog, Ali. Much deserved praise. Congrats. ☺

    • Thank you so much! That means so much to me! That’s exactly what I always wanted my blog to do. 😊 Hopefully I will be learning lots of interesting stuff at Uni that I can share here too.

      • p.s. One of the most inspiring folks I ever met was an 82 yr old, going for a degree in English Literature. Never too old to learn. ☺

  3. Huge congratulations, Ali, this is so exciting and well-deserved πŸ™‚ And kudos to you for heading off to University as well, sounds like a wonderful course, right up your alley xx

    • Yaaay! A fellow mature student! Fantastic! Wish him the best from me, we will have to compare notes about our experiences. Thanks Hugh!

  4. You have my VOTE!!! Congratulations on returning to the “UNIVERSITY” world of further learning. You will probably have more to teach them then they will be teaching you.

    • Thank you Diane! Haha! I don’t know about that, but I’m looking forward to getting started, although the butterflies wings are starting to tremble already! 😁

  5. I think my name’s down for judging the long list again this year. Maybe they’ll allocate me your blog Ali πŸ™‚ Wow, where are you going to find the time to study? Very exciting though and great to formally study a subject you love.

    • I’m going to have to get good at managing my time, something I’m really rubbish at right now. I’m very excited to have this opportunity, and a little apprehensive. You will be a great judge, Roy, I hope you get my blog too. 😁

  6. Woo hoo, such exciting news!!! First of all, congrats on the nomination. Please don’t make me choose between you and Tara; it’d be like Sophie’s Choice.

More importantly, though, congrats on your decision to go for a BA! I can’t think of a better student. As I’ve got a few teaching hours under my belt, I can tell you that I envy the professors who will be teaching you. Your enthusiasm and eagerness would be much appreciated in any classroom!

    • Never knew you were a teacher, Nick! You are a man of many (some hidden) talents! Thanks for your encouragement and support. And I would never make you choose. You should and must vote for whomever you like, no pressure, and no change to our friendship. But if you don’t pick me, I’ll be bringing my shillelagh with me to Greece next summer…

  7. Congratulations on the blog being long-listed. And, of course, I’ll vote for it when it’s shortlisted.
As for going to university at nearly 50 – that’s brilliant. I went when I was in my late forties and loved it. University is wasted on young people πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Diane! I’m sure I will have lots to share on my blog… Can’t wait to get started, but a little nervous too! 😁

  8. I wouldn’t worry about me, Ali. I insult far too many people to be any kind of threat. I’m more worried about you charming the proverbials off the judges. If only I could be nice. But I tried it once and didn’t like it.

On another note, CONGRATULATIONS on going back to college! Delighted for you so I am!

  9. Ha! Excellent. Please say you’ll dye your hair, wear flowery DMs and write cheesy poetry. Oh and great stuff about the longlist. Most well deserved. Ditto la Sparling
